In more detail...
The Engine Shed was built in partnership with the North Yorkshire Moors Park Authority in 2021.

Battersby Junction is nestled within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Battersby Station was the key junction for the movement of ironstone from Rosedale. The North Yorkshire & Cleveland Railway opened the line for goods traffic from Picton to Battersby Junction on 6th April 1858.

In modern times the area is still blessed with the unspoilt scenery and the protected dark skies at night.

You can arrive at the Engine Shed by rail, foot, bike, horse or car. We offer a Sherpa service if your stay with us is part of a wider adventure.

In order to promote our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint, we offer discounts to those who visit us without their motor vehicle; please get in touch to find out more!

Battersby Junction Railway station is part of the Esk Valley railway line and is part of a direct line to popular seaside town of Whitby.

There is a strong cycling movement with routes on the doorstep and the Yorkshire Cycling Hub nearby.
There is a wonderful play park, a few minutes walk from the Engine Shed. It was built in 2019 and is spotless and offers something for all ages. There are covered areas so you can enjoy a picnic in any weather!

We offer paddleboarding lessons, Ebike hire and private yoga on the deck for those who would like to enjoy a fitness retreat! Fitness packages can be tailored to meet your exact needs and there's something for everyone so don't be shy!

There is a buoyant equine community with bridleways on the doorstep, horse friendly beaches to gallop across and Northallerton Equestrian Centre only 10 miles away offering dressage, show jumping and cross country courses. If you would like to bring your horse on holiday with you to get 5 star treatment, we offer grass livery and can arrange hay if required; please get in touch to find out more!

We work in partnership with CrossFit Stokesley and can tailor a package if you are interested in taking part in a daily WOD (Workout of the Day). Please get in touch for more information on this option.
Our aim is to share our little piece of heaven. There are many activities to enjoy but we encourage you to kick back and take in nature, cook alfresco on the stove and relax in the private hot tub.
Free seed kit
We'd like you to help us with our vision to become more sustainable and protect our environment. When you stay with us, you will receive a seed kit. We ask all of our guests to plant wildflowers during their stay.
